March 28, 2018: I was a senior in high school, anxiously awaiting my next big transition - to play Division 1 soccer at the University of Washington. So, I dedicated every moment to training. It was tiring, and when I noticed myself getting more fatigued than usual, I didn’t think twice about it.
But the fatigue turned into extreme exhaustion, and the weird sensations in my feet turned into numbness and tingling throughout my whole body. As I started to experience more symptoms, a visit with the neurologist and a series of MRIs would later confirm my diagnosis – I have Multiple Sclerosis.
Despite the numerous unknowns and the countless questions we had regarding this puzzling diagnosis, I was sure of one thing – I was going to put my cleats back on and play soccer again. Though this process wasn’t easy, nor linear, I eventually returned to the field and played several seasons with the UW Women’s Soccer team. What could have been an impossible goal became my (I’m)possible reality.
Today, 2024: Though my soccer career has come to a close, I am walking away excited to share my story and inspire young adults living with MS so they know their dreams are possible, too.
